Italian American Charity Golf Association Strengthens Cancer Care at UPMC Chautauqua with Ongoing Investment in Advanced Imaging

“Stamp Out Cancer in Our Lifetime” remains the mission of the Italian- American Charity Golf Association (IA), whose continued generosity is helping expand cancer care in our community.

IA board members Dave Munella and Joe Paterniti recently presented UPMC Chautauqua with a gift to complete their pledge supporting the hospital’s Mammography Department expansion project. The donation was received by Kristin Melville, Executive Director of the WCA Foundation; Tracy Gates, President of UPMC Chautauqua; and Tammara Hodges, Director of Operations.

The expansion will enhance patient-centered breast care through advanced technology, including the addition of a GE E10 ultrasound system. Updates will also improve the comfort, privacy, and overall experience for patients receiving care.

Founded 55 years ago, IA has provided longstanding philanthropic support for cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment at UPMC Chautauqua. To date, the organization has contributed more than 1.5 million to support local patients and families.

Looking ahead, IA has committed to an additional three-year investment to support continued advancements in cancer care, including a BK UroNav Transducer for prostate cancer diagnostics and the introduction of contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM). CEM is an advanced type of breast imaging that can help doctors see cancers more clearly by highlighting areas that may not show up on a standard mammogram—helping find cancers earlier and with greater confidence.

“We see the impact of the Italian American Charity Golf Association’s generosity every day—in earlier diagnoses, in greater peace of mind for patients, and in lives changed,” said Tracy Gates, President of UPMC Chautauqua. “Their dedication helps us bring both innovation and compassion to cancer care in our community.”

The IA Charity Golf Tournament will be held June 11–13 at Holiday Valley’s Double Black Diamond Golf Course in Ellicottville.
