How’s That For Openers? Schifano, Johnson Shoot 60, Lead By 1 Shot

Mike Schifano and Alex Johnson turned in a fine opening round at the 51st Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament at Holiday Valley Resort on Thursday.

They had company.

Schifano and Johnson fired a net best-ball 10-under 60 to put them atop the leaderboard, but only by one shot over the teams of Zack Panebianco and Matt Hoaglund, and Corey Schmitt and Ryan Calalesina. Four teams are tied after firing 63s — Sam Peppy and Charlie Moss, Joe Vitello and Colin Whitermore, George Panebianco and John O’Marra, and Casey Digirolamo and Dusty Carlson.

Rounding out the First Flight are John I. LaMancuso and Adam McKinley, Chris Pappalardo and Dan Brunenavs, Jon Scalise and Kurt Eimiller, and Jon Trussalo and Tim Magnuson, all with a 64; and Brett Cappa and Derek Dawson with a 65.

Busty Triscari and Steve Johnson lead the way in the Second Flight with a 65, one shot in front of nine teams tied at 66. Twelve teams sit at 67 in the Third Flight; Sam Triscari and Dave Rowe, and Nick Yachetta and Bruce Johnson pace the Fourth Flight with a 67; 10 teams are tied at 69 in the Fifth Flight; Peter Morgante and Jon Gren Jr., Anthony Vitello and John Deppas, and Todd Frangione and Mark Tarbrake are deadlocked in the Sixth Flight after each team recorded a 70; and Jim Panebianco and Tom Sedorchuk, and Joe Sinatra and Dan Hallberg sit atop the Seventh Flight with 72s.

The second round is today, followed by the final round on Saturday. The overall champion and runners-up can come from any flight.
