Todd D’Angelo and Joe Willig teed off at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the first round of the Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament.

Their score stood up all day.

The tandem fired a net best-ball 14-under 56 for medalist honors at the 49th annual event at Holiday Valley Resort.

That was three shots better than John Foti and Dan Cotter and four better than Sam Peppy and Charlie Moss. Those three teams are in the First Flight.

Ties dominate the remaining flights.

Jon Scalise and Kurt Eimiller, Dave Rizzo and Tim Mead, and Mike Schifano and Alex Johnson all shot 66 in the Second Flight; Mike Condella and Dave Anderson, Pete Morgante and Jon Gren Jr., and Dennis Palermo and Bernie Auer all fired 68 in the Third Flight; and Nick Trussalo and Kyle Hocking, Mike Caprino and Mike Marshall, and Tommy Tantillo and Nick Bell each recorded a 69 in the Fourth Flight.

Also, Sam LaMancuso and Matt Hartweg, Mike Panebianco and Nick Shelley, and Dave Foti and Nick Madden all shot 71 in the Fifth Flight; and Mark Panebianco and Sean Larson, Pat Smeraldo and Richie Joslyn, and Paul Pappalardo and Mark Brunenavs had 73s in the Sixth Flight.

In the Seventh Flight, Sam Triscari and Dave Rowe lead the the way after a 75. Vic Tarana and Randy Ordines, and Todd Frangigone and Mark Tarbrake are second after shooting a 76.

The second round is today, followed by the final round on Saturday. The overall champion and runners-up can come from any flight.

Morgante, Gren Shoot 13-Under In Final Round To Win Tourney By One

Anything can happen on the final day in any golf event, and that was certainly the mindset that teammates Jon Gren Jr. and Peter Morgante took into the third and final afternoon of the 48th annual Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament on the Double Black Diamond course at Holiday Valley Resort on Saturday.

The pair, which claimed its first victory at the I-A in 2015, entered the final round of the weekend in a six-shot hole, but was able to climb out of that deficit with a final-round 57 for a 190 total to take home the title. After firing a 62 on Day 1 to put themselves in good position on the leaderboard, Morgante and Gren stumbled in their middle round, shooting a 1-over-par 71 for a two-day total of 133.

Two longtime Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament partners find themselves with a slim lead after the second round of the 48th annual event at Holiday Valley Resort.

Henry Mole and Tom Ames fired a net best-ball 7-under 63 Friday that, when coupled with their opening-round 64, puts them at 127, atop the First Flight and two shots ahead of the field.

For the second straight year, Jasyn Consiglio and Josh Dankovich are setting the pace after the first round of the Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament.

The tandem fired a net best-ball 10-under 60, two shots in front of the teams of Peter Morgante and Jon Gren Jr., and Nick Trussalo and Kyle Hocking. Other top rounds in the First Flight were 63s by Chris Pappalardo and Dan Brunenavs, and Tony Triscari and Dan Okrulic; 64s by Mike Condella and Dave Anderson, Adam Mason and Pat MacIntyre, Henry Mole and Tom Ames, George Panebianco and John O’Mara, and Pete Pillittieri and Andy Sandstrom; and a 65 by Bucky Lombardo and Jeff Johnson.

The newly acquired back room at the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame on West Third Street in Jamestown serves as the organization’s board room. The large space has recently been painted, new carpeting has been installed and some furniture has been moved in, but the walls have nothing hanging on them as of yet.

As Jack Munella Sr. and Mike Giunta took a seat at a table in the middle of the expanse earlier this week, I couldn’t help but think that they would be able to provide plenty of golf memorabilia to cover those walls if the opportunity presented itself.
